Each year Sunningdale Golf & Country
Club holds an annual reception to celebrate and give
back financial gifts in kind to the various
charities that hold their golf tournaments at
Sunningdale.
In 2012, nine local charities are holding their
tournaments at Sunningdale:
- Golf Play Day (raising funds for special projects at
Children's Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre)
- Children's Health Foundation
- Make-A-Wish
Foundation
- Ronald McDonald House
- Flame of Hope
(diabetes)
- Trudell Medical St. Joe's Urology
-
Fanshawe College Foundation
- London Home Builders
Association Cancer Survivor's Garden
- The Polar
Bear Classic (supporting Thames Valley Children’s Centre)
All
charities - except for the previous year's winner -
are entered into a unique draw format with equal
opportunity to win. For this year, the 9th annual
reception, two winning charities were drawn – Golf
Play Day and Fanshawe College Foundation, each
winning a $5,000 donation to their charity. All
charities (even the $5,000 winners) receive a $1,500
contribution towards Golf Shop purchases. Last year
local charity golf tournaments at Sunningdale raised
nearly $1 million.
Gordon Thompson, President, Sunningdale Golf &
Country Club, explained why Sunningdale hosts this
annual reception: "This event is really all about thanks - thanks to
all of the organizations for what they do for the
community. It is with great appreciation that we
host this event each year, and to thank you for
bringing your event to Sunningdale"
Frank Angeletti (President, Board of Governors,
Sunningdale) added: "It's all about giving – it's
about giving in terms of this community. From the
Board of Governors of Sunningdale we thank these
charities for the contributions they make to this
community. Our community as a whole is that much
stronger for your commitment and your support, and
for the contributions that you make".
Thames Valley Children's Centre
Tournament Awarded Sunningdale Gift of $10,000 for
2011
April 19, 2011
Since 2004, Sunningdale has held an
annual reception for all those charities holding
fundraising golf tournaments at Sunningdale that
year.
At the 8th annual reception hosting
10 local charities, The Polar Bear Classic
for Thames Valley Children's Centre won the
draw for the grand prize of $10,000 towards their
tournament as a result of a unique draw overseen by
Frank Angeletti, President of the Sunningdale Board
of Governors. Patty Howard, Sunningdale's Director
of Golf, made random selections from boxed
individual golf balls labeled with the participating
charities' names, counting down the ten tournaments
until only the Thames Valley Children's Centre
remained.
John LaPorta, CEO of Thames Valley
Children's Centre, agreed with other charity
tournament spokespersons that all tournaments at
Sunningdale are winners, thanks to the tremendous
support of John Adams, Patty Howard, Jason Wyatt,
Josh Redquest, JoAnne Hosack, Tim Webb and their
staff.
