The Neighbourhoods of Sunningdale include a number
of design features aimed at minimizing the impact of human habitation
on the natural environment.
- Buffer plantings Native species
have been grouped to mimic natural plant groupings and serve
as protective transition zones that enable interior habitats
to naturally expand outwards.
- Tree preservation Although some
small woodlots and trees had to be removed, good specimens have
been preserved and transplanted to other locations. Other trees
were carefully sheltered and protected during the construction
phases.
- Fully landscaped Storm Water Management
facilities will be created to naturally handle much of the storm
water run off instead of just channeling into sewers. They will
also become an aesthetic focal point for walks and observing
nature.
