Created by glacier action more than 10,000 years ago, the Medway
Valley includes heavily forested areas and shrub thickets, meadow
marshes, swamp and open wetland. Because of its diversity, the
valley has been designated an Environmentally Sensitive Area.
It is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including:

- Purple martins
- Nuthatches
- Waxwings
- Warblers
- Finches
- Orioles
- Great blue herons
- Wood ducks
- Sandpipers
- Kingfishers
- Ospry
- Turkey vultures
- Red-tailed hawks
- Great horned owls
- Red-headed woodpeckers
- Red-bellied woodpeckers
- Ovenbirds
- Brown creepers
- Blue-gray gnatcatchers
- Wood thrushes
- 40 fish species, including central stoneroller, green-sided
darter and silver shiner
- Coyotes
- Red foxes
- Beavers
- Raccoons
- Eastern cottontails
- Opossum
- Muskrats
- Chipmunks
- White-tailed deer
- Snapping turltles
- Painted turtles
- Eastern garter snakes
- Gray treefrogs
